Tennis Speed & Agility Testing

Tennis performance is built on lateral explosiveness, split-step reaction, and change of direction efficiency. EPP quantifies each quality and identifies exactly what to train to move better on court.

Suitable for: Junior tennis players (U8–U18), adult club players, county-level competitors

What We Test
The Tennis Testing Battery

Every EPP tennis assessment covers these five tests using Photon Sports timing gates, high-speed cameras, and force-platform analysis. Results delivered as a full written report within 48 hours.

1
Lateral 5-0-5 bilateral agility
Tennis is a lateral-dominant sport. Bilateral asymmetry directly affects court coverage and injury risk on dominant-side pivots.
2
Split-step and first-step acceleration
The split-step to first move is where rallies are won and lost. We time first-step acceleration off reactive cues.
3
Sprint speed and acceleration profile
0–10m acceleration is most relevant for tennis — most points are decided within 3–5 metres of starting position.
4
Countermovement jump
Vertical power for serve mechanics and overhead reach. Reactive strength for split-step efficiency.
5
Force-velocity profile
Tennis players frequently present with velocity deficits. The FV profile determines whether gym or on-court speed work is the priority.
What the Data Shows
Why This Matters for Tennis

Tennis-specific speed training is underserved in the UK below county level. Most junior players receive excellent technical coaching but no physical baseline. A single EPP assessment gives parents and coaches an objective picture of where their player sits physically relative to age-group norms.

Questions
Frequently Asked
Where are tennis sessions held?
Primarily at Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club. Some sessions at Alexander Stadium depending on the protocol.
How often should a county-level player test?
Quarterly — pre-season baseline, mid-season check, and end-of-season review. This tracks development objectively across the year.
Can you help with movement on court?
Yes. Following assessment, 1-to-1 coaching sessions focus on the specific movement deficits in your data. Lateral agility drills form a core part of tennis-specific coaching work.
