Sports Performance Testing for Children in Birmingham

By Ben Royal · Elite Player Performance

Sports performance testing for children is now accessible beyond professional academies. Parents and coaches across Birmingham can access the same data-driven assessment that Category 1 academies use — at EPP venues across Birmingham, Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, Coleshill and Manchester.

What Age Can Children Be Tested?

EPP tests athletes from U8 upwards. Testing protocols are adapted to be age-appropriate — U8 and U9 assessments focus on fundamental movement quality, sprint mechanics and reactive agility rather than absolute performance scores. For U10 and above, full benchmark comparison data is available.

What Does a Children's Performance Assessment Include?

EPP assessments for children include: sprint profiling at 5m, 10m and 30m using Photon Sports timing gates; change of direction testing (T-test and 505 protocols); bilateral leg strength assessment identifying any asymmetry; a force-velocity profile; and a full written report within 48 hours with specific training recommendations tailored to the child's sport and developmental stage.
