Athletics Testing — Alexander Stadium Birmingham

Which Phase of Your Sprint is Holding You Back?

A finish time tells you how fast. Split-time profiling at 10m, 15m, 20m and 30m tells you exactly where the time is being lost — and whether the fix is mechanics, force production, or velocity work.

What We Measure
The Athletics Testing Battery

Every EPP athletics assessment covers these tests using Photon Sports timing gates and high-speed cameras. Full written report within 48 hours.

1
30m & 40m sprint with full split timing
Photon Sports gates at 10m, 15m, 20m, 30m and 40m — far more granular than any standard timing system.
2
Force-velocity profile
Identifies whether training should prioritise force production or velocity expression. Most athletes are sub-optimal on one side.
3
Sprint mechanics analysis
High-speed cameras capture stride frequency, ground contact time, overstriding, and arm mechanics.
4
Countermovement jump & reactive strength index
RSI has an outsized effect on top-end speed — highly relevant from 60m to 400m.
5
0–10m drive phase analysis
Block clearance angle, first-step mechanics, and initial acceleration — determines race position at 30m.
Why It Matters
Why Sprint Times Lie

Two athletes can run the same 40m time through completely different sprint profiles. One might have an excellent drive phase but poor top-end velocity. The other might have fast maximum velocity but a poor acceleration phase. The training response is completely different for each. Without split-time analysis, coaches are guessing which intervention to apply.
